Why vote for me for Brookline Housing Authority?
The Board of Commissioners is the highest decision-making body for our town’s public housing complexes. Its decisions have a great impact on the lives of our public housing residents, including myself. In order to meet the needs of the BHA’s residents in the most effective way possible, the BHA Commissioners should include more BHA residents like me.
“The people closest to the pain, should be the closest to the power”
- Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley
For those who don't know me:
I have lived and raised my children in BHA since 2012, and sent my children to the Public Schools of Brookline. I am a practicing Licensed Certified Social Worker (LCSW) and an administrator for the Roxbury Division of the Boston Municipal Court.
Additionally, I have confronted homelessness firsthand; I know what it means to stretch a paycheck and visit food pantries; and as a Black woman I have dealt with systemic racial and sexist discrimination.
My professional experiences ensure that I will bring ample experience and qualifications to the Housing Authority Board, but it is my life experience that has given me the...
...ability to truly understand the human impact of the policy decisions the board makes.
My Priorities:
Bring the resident perspective to every decision the Housing Authority will make
Support transparent communication to residents
Advocate with the State Legislature, the Select Board, and Town Meeting for funding for repairs and renovations to ensure residents have decent living conditions
Explore the creation of new affordable housing on BHA properties
Ensure that any changes to BHA properties align with the Town’s Climate Action Plan and follow environmental justice practices
Advocate for programming and opportunities for BHA residents: recreation options for all ages, educational and job supports, and linkages to affordable home ownership opportunities
My commitment to public service:
I am a:
Precinct 2 Town Meeting Member;
Member of the Select Board’s Housing Authority Working Group;
Member of the Affordable Housing Overlay Study Committee;
Member of the Police Commissioner’s Advisory Committee;
Member of the Task Force to Reimagine Public Safety
Vice President of the Women Thriving Board in Brookline
Board Member of Brookline for Racial Justice and Equity
Board Member Brookline Community Development Corporation
Board Member Roxbury Court Choice Program.
Lastly, I am honored to say that Brookline’s Commission for Women
recognized me as a Woman of the Year in 2022.
Thank you for your consideration.
I hope to earn your vote and make the BHA’s Board of Commissioners
more inclusive and effective. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me.
